iPad external monitor

Does anyone here know of any way to turn an iPad into an external monitor for your camera? I've got an old (First Generation) iPad, and it's barely useful at this point. I would be open to a jailbreak solution, if anyone has heard of one.

Has anything like this been attempted? I've Googled this and found nothing. It surprises me that no one has ever tried this - or at least, no one has succeeded and posted.

The only way so far seems to be a hardware video encoder, that will take HDMI and produce video stream your iPad can patch into via WiFi. Something like this: http://www.teradek.com/pages/cube

If you are fine with lower resolution, you can try to put something together using circuitry of a wireless IP camera. But if you are able pull that off, you can probably make money for the Teradek Cube pretty easily ;-)

I have a Camranger. I only use it for client photoshoots though. It has a little bit of delay if using it on an Ipad (for video monitoring), however, when used on the iPhone 5S, it behaves like a 240hz tv..it makes everything fast but can sometimes skip. For pure video projects, I use a proper video monitor.
