does anyone have any templates for invoices? i just need to invoice a magazine company for me to go to a movie theater and promote the magazine. nothing fancy, just a basic invoice.

thanks.

I usually create my invoices in Word, but have also used a really simple program called "My Invoices."

If you do it in Word, create a letterhead with your name, address, phone and email address.

The invoice should include:
  • Date of the invoice
  • Recipient's name and address
  • Work that was performed and date of the work
  • Agreed-upon fee for the work; if it was hourly, should include "5 hours @ $20/hour" and a total
  • Add a note along the lines of "Please remit within 30 days" so if they take a really long time to pay, you have set yourself up to come back to them with "late charges" (although you should only pursue late charges in really extreme circumstances if you want to keep a relationship with them in the future)
  • Sign it with your full name and SSN -- they cannot process it without your SSN (these days most companies accept invoices electronically so don;t worry about sending a hard copy with an actual written signature)
Here is an example:

Joe Blow
1 Main St., Apt 1A
Anywhere, ST 11111

14 June 2006

TO: Editor's name
Magazine's Name
Mag's Address 1
Mag's Address 2

RE: Invoice for magazine promotion at BlahBlahPlace

Fee for promo activity (5 hours @ $20/hour): $100.00

TOTAL DUE: $100.00

I use them for all my invoicing and they have a free plan. Fantastic.

Thanks for those links VidLed. I was just thinking about doing some invoices, but don't have a version of Works that works anymore. I figure that I might as well create a spreadsheet, since I had to learn how to in College.
