Hi,

I'm investigsting an agency called Cheryl McCarthy's Literary Agency, based in Florida (or Cheryl McCarthy agent)

I can't find much info about them and I wanted to check if anyone has heard or delt with them.

They charge a monthly fee for their services which is also concerning.

Any help you guys could offer would be much appreciated.

Regards;
EH

Just a general note - it's pretty widely thought that anyone who charges a monthly fee for services is not reputable. Usually reputable agents will only represent people whos work they think they can sell, and if they can sell it, they'll take their fair cut of the sales. If they charge you might want to consider a few possibilities:

a.) they aren't planning on being able to/trying to sell your material (rather, just collect fees and sit on it)

b.) if they do think they can sell your material and they are charing you a monthly/yearly fee anyway, is that deducted from any future sales profits for them?

There have been quite a few articles regarding this in Creative Screenwriting and Script - watch out for scam artists.

Don't know anything about you as a writer, and I hope you wont take this as a critique on your ability to procure representation or write good material... but don't let anyone abuse you as tempting as the promise of an agent may be up front. Wait until you have someone who is looking out for your best interest, because after all... your interest is their interest... at about 10%. Money well spent.

generally speaking, landing a legit agent is about as difficult as catching Barry Bond's 714th home run ball. There are people who've won major screenwriting contests that can't get agents. There are even produced Hollywood writers that still can't get agents. And I've never heard of a legit agent that charges an association fee, are sure they're a literary agency and not into property management?
