A follow focus for DSLRs:

German manufacturer Intuitfocus has released a hands-free follow-focus system (the HF-IF1). It uses a motorized belt-drive system that attaches around the lens and remotely controlled by scroll wheel. Can be used to control focus, zoom or aperture; there will be camera/lens specific variations. Available through the US distributor HP Marketing from September.

Man.. thanks so much for sharing this. This thing looks totally awesome. Did you or anyone know the expected price? Just seems so much more simplied than a geared follow focus and let's hope it's much cheaper too.

I wonder how it mounts to the camera itself? Maybe it needs rods or whatever? Well I'm hooked for sure...

I agree it seems steep for what it is. Hell, you can buy a decent car for 4,000 that has 10x the technology, and 1000x the materials. But as you and I know, cinema gear is very specific with limited demand, So this is why it costs so much. I have seen 5,000 matte boxes, which to me is outragous. But when you consider the camera is anywhere from 50,000 to 150,000 (or more) it seems relative.

It would be an awesome tool to have. But there's probably not too many indifilmmakers with the extra cash to sport one. Rental is more likely the way to go. Curious to see what Redrock charges for there's.

2500€ here in Germany yes= too expensive 4sure! there is another thread about them here and supposedly its possible to DIY for around 200 $

I'll stick with a geared focus rig, or the varizoom that I have. They must be smoking crack to expect anyone to spend 4k on this darn thing. That's more than the DSLR and a decent lens package...

People will show their interest or lack thereof by not buying it... I was excited about this, but the price is so beyond stupid... almost insulting.

things like that will never be cheap if you want quality product, look at preston remote systems... you can pay 20k $ for remote control system. these days cameras are getting cheaper, but accessories will cost the same. it's like with cars, margin is not really big on them, but on spare parts... different story.
