A chilly hello from the flyover-zone,

Hello to all you audio lovers, I stumbled on this forum looking for equipment opinions and have been lurking through past threads for a few days now. Everything I read leads me to believe that there are many talented and experienced sound folks hanging out here, and I'll be picking your brains about a few different topics in the future. Just wanted to say hi and introduce myself.
My name's derek and I'm on the verge of graduating from Columbia College here in Chicago, where I originally came to learn more about recording and audio in general but now that I'm just about finished I find I'm spending all my time in the film/video side of the trade and have found myself completely intrigued by it. I love technology and the use of it for creative endeavors and hope to start out working here in Chicago doing location sound recording, though I'd love to stay active in post-sound work as well. As far as professional work experience in the field I have little to none, however I've been very involved in recording sound for a large variety of student films of varying calibers (from 16mm to hd shoots). In this work I've become very familiar with the basic tools of the trade including nagras, dats, digital nonlinear, mics, RF systems, a handful of different mixers, and a few of the standard mics as well as extensive use of protools (Columbia is completely dominated by it for good or ill). I'm hoping to learn more though and hence I joined dvxuser. Well that's it for now.

Looking forward to some good audio discussion,
derek
