Well after endless searching iv not found any thread that talks about color correction in Sony vegas in detail.

The few iv found are scattered and are talking about different problems faced by members.

I'm thinking it would be really great to have a thread where people can share how they go about CCing, what they've discovered that would be of help to others,Articles, tutorials, plugins and maybe tips on how to handle the workflow.

I hope im making sense here but i think this would really help. And i apologise if i'v missed any forum rules on this.

This one talks about magic bullet(plug in)that works in vegas. plus Eugenia gives some very lovely links to her tutorials.

This is a good idea and I hope people contribute to this thread. I'll throw up some stuff if I get a free moment sometime soon.

That said, color correction is pretty standard among all the NLEs out there. Don't pass by an article on CCing in FCP just because it is FCP. The Three-Way color corrector in FCP and the color corrector in Vegas operate on the same principles, and have pretty much the same controls just laid out differently. They can all be transposed across platforms.

If you learn how to correct, you will be able to do it on almost anything you are on.

I'd say start with Hullfish's book to get the background of how and why. Made a huge difference for me.

after using vegas, premiere, after effects, FCP and fusion, i have found that vegas produces the worst quality color correction by far. i will never use vegas for CC'ing, that is just my opinion.

Can you give any feedback as to why? Are there limitations that you don't find in other programs?

one reason might be that vegas doesn't always render out the same colors you saw in the preview window, but that's really dependent on the codec. I got over it.

For instance, my h264/mp4 renders always come out a 1/3 of a stop lighter then what they were in the preview. not much so when its mpeg2/HDV or some form of avi. now call me me crazy, but when I use abode media encoder, it does a similar thing to h264/mp4 renders and flv/f4v.

And it also depends on whether you are relying on the colour shown in the Preview Window in the GUI on the PC or whether you are using an external monitor for the preview . This gives a far more accurate representation of how the project will eventually look on the TV screen. It also helps to make use of the various scopes if you're not happy with the visual appearance on its own.

I have to say that I've always found Colour Correction in Vegas to be excellent. It is comprehensive in the options it offers and , with patience, very effective in the results it offers.

Incidentally I found the Vasst DVD about colour correction (volume 4 in the series I think) most useful and would thoroughly recommend its purchase.
