Introducing the Brevis Revision 2

Here's a sneak peak at the culmination of another intensive testing/revision cycle. I'm completely thrilled with the new unit :)
  • It is still only 270 grams in weight (including internal power).
  • A great deal of effort has gone into sound dampening with the result that in a quiet room, the unit is inaudible from about 2 feet away.
  • Has a user interchangeable diffuser system. (with the latest diffusers arriving next week)
  • Still has user swappable lens mounts (Canon FD, Nikon, M42, Minolta MD, EOS, PL and OCT19 in the works)
  • Still shows .5 stops of light gain.
  • Now has a slick fully CNC'd rails system and mount.
  • Is still fully sealed fore and aft with fully coated optics.
  • Has a new custom spec'd flat black finish.
  • Has a new rear mounting system for perfect frame to GG alignment.
  • New "1 tool" design that allows full external adjustment of everything with one little allen key.
  • Internal changes to make the unit absolutely bullet proof with respect to shock and vibration. You can drop it all you like..but you won't break it!
We've got some more surpises in store very soon :)

The unit pictured is accompanying me on the Chicago to Mackinaw Island sailboat race. Speaking of which, I need to do some packing! See you guys in a week.

Guys,

I've been testing this unit for a couple of days now. Without a doubt, a really nice image from this unit. I'll be posting something soon.

You tested THIS unit? The new one with switchable diffusers and all the other changes? Or the first initial version? What camera are you using it with? I have the first version but I really want to upgrade it. The new one has a lot of great improvements (specialy the switchable diffusers). Post some footage if when you can.

Yes the latest version. I'll be posting some footage using the HVX200 soon.

Unfortunately not yet. Soon I hope.

Bgundu, have you tried an M2 also?
I would like to know if the Brevis works well in Run and Gun (Handheld type of shooting- for "Traffic" looking features)

Do you really need the rails?

Does it work like the M2? ( rotating ground glass method?)

Can one consider the Brevis as an M2 with the capability of run and gun shooting without the need of an external battery?

Dennis, can you help with some of this info? :)

Bgundu, you also have an M2? That is great. Any chance we can see a side by side comparison? The exact same shot/framing/light with both adapters. That would be amazing. What are your impressions on the 2 adapters? I can only speak about the Brevis (I don't have an M2), but from the footage I've seen from the M2 I can tell the latitude increase is bigger on the M2, which makes the footage more filmic...on the other hand, the Brevis CAN be used run and gun and it looses VERY LITTLE light. Dennis is working on a switchable diffusers (like I said before) and this may "solve" the latitude "issue".

I don't have the M2 but I know someone who does. The Brevis35 is simply amazing. It's lightweight and screws onto the fron threads. You don't need rails to use it. However I do recommend it. But if I was in a pinch and beeded to use it in a run-and-gun situation, I'd go for it. I'm not sure yet how long the internal battery runs for after the 1.5 hour charge. The Brevis uses a vibrating GG and is very quiet. I'll be posting some footage very shortly.

Yes, so far I really like the brevis. For me the only thing that is keeping it from being perfect is the latitude thing...but this is a personal thing. I'm sure MANY people only care about the DOF. I can honestly say that there's no barrel distortion, no color aberration, very very very little image softening.

Btw, I have some HD online footage from the FX1 if somebody is interested (as run and gun as it gets).

Bob, run time on a full charge (1.2 to 1.5 hours) has been tested at approx 20 hours. Aren't modern electronics fun?

SPZ, we should have that HVX stuff for you shortly. I have the new prototype diffusers in my hands as of last night. As soon as I get from under the current shipments (sorry folks :-() There will be plenty of test footage, and providing all goes well, we should have the optional diffusers available in 2-4 weeks.

We also have a great developement in the optics department that will be announced shortly.

I'd like to. Link?

Here's the link to a VERY VERY quick run & gun test. It was shot in 15 minutes with automatic WB, with a 18-28mm, 55mm, 85mm, 70-200mm. The color corrected version looks better. There's also a test I did with the achromat Dennis is selling all by it self. There's A LOT of distortion with the achromat by it self. I have no idea if this is supposed to happen or not.

All achromats distort unless you're focusing on something at their focal length. Depending on the object distance, the distortion changes from mild to severe.

:dankk2: Rafa! I will download it as soon as possible. By now, I'm away from my unlimited bandwidth.

This adapter is putting out some sweet footage!

I'm doing a low budget music video in mid-september and I'd really like to use one of these puppies. Anyone in the San Diego/Los Angeles area willing to rent theirs out for a day or two?
