I've been working as a video editor for the better part of two years and was recently laid off. Since that time, I've had an idea for a small business which would in part involve recording interviews in people's home's or in a more controlled home office studio. I don't anticipate anything other that static shots with individuals sitting in chairs talking for now.
I'm trying to keep costs low and was hoping for some advice on what might be a reasonably good solution for this. I don't anticipate my camera having XLR inputs, so I was looking into the Zoom H4n or Tascam DR100 for a recorder, but I have heard about some noise level issues with the H4n when it comes to recording interviews and that concerns me. Can anyone speak to this?
Running from the recorder, I'm debating what would be best for mics. I've previously owned and used an Oktava MK012 in my work prior which I found to be very adequate and I had considered putting it on an articulated c-stand just out of frame. My other option is a wired lavalier mic, though I'm uncertain about those since I haven't got much experience with them. The last time I looked, the Sanken Cos-11 was highly recommended, but it seems to have gone up in price considerably from what I remember. Any other suggestions?
Thanks.
