Interview setups

how do you guys feel about an interview with the subjects face against a white-lit background? does it seem cheap and unoriginal? should I think of something more creative?

I would think so. I've never done it, but it sounds like it would be. (boring that is) I guess it matters what it's for.

it might interesting for two or three seconds then turn very boring since that's the type thing you'd see in a music video, not and interview.

well that answers my question. The actual interview will be seen for short periods, intermixed with shots of what the person is talking about. Just didn't know if "all white" or all of one color is a "turn-off" for interviews. Thanks all.

I was interviewed for the doc I am working on about my family and it was with a white background. I don't think it is as visually exciting as the interviews I shot that have interesting backgrounds, but it doesn't distract the viewer from what the subject is; the audiences' eyes are not wandering around the screen, looking at what's in the background. Good luck with whatever you decide.

try to do something where the only focus is the person being interviewed. Something like extreme DOF type stuff. Apple has a lot of good examples of this especially when they interview somebody about a new software etc..
