Interview Lighting

Ah, didn't know they were so pricy! Now I want one even more... Definitely outside of his price range, but still something to know about for when you move up to bigger budget stuff, thanks for the info Kelly!

Kinos... 400 and 200w Diva and you're done. I have done way too much shooting in hospitals and the key is just to get some light in the eyes and let everything else look natural. Doctors will wear white coats, which is brutal but you've got to live with it. Bring some sparkle in the eyes and let the rest be what it is. If you're shooting sit down interviews two Divas and a small fresnel should do it. Lite Panels Micro Pro for on camera when you need it.

If money is an issue, I'd (in fact I did) go with CooLights. I got two of the portable, dimming 4 banks for the cost of one Diva and they work great. I use them for interviews.

Here are a couple of links showing the results.

Or you can try the CoolLights LED's. I'd get these way before the Flolights.

Kelly - this is the best example I've seen of a Coollight set up - I wish I saw them more often in real-world use. I just recently picked up two 650W fresnels and a 4x55 flo from Coollights and am really happy with my purchase. I'm thinking I may want to get another 4x55 flo because they're easy to set up, very cool, and give off great light at a much greater distance than I expected. I set it up inside my office to test it out on a stand and pointed it in the general direction of the door, and walking around the corner, you would swear it was sunlight coming in - very cool. Plus, I like the idea of simply swapping out bulbs to go to a 3200k or 2900k light to match with tungstens.

A couple of questions about your setup - you have some film in front of the flo's - was that for further diffusion? Were they too sharp for your need, or too bright? If the latter, are they not dimmable or did that not suit your purpose for some reason? What is the material you're using in front of the flo's?

Also, you have two smaller lights in the room - can you give me details as to what those are? I see a backlight with a blue gel for color / separation, and what appears to be a hair/rim light that isn't turned on. What brand/model/power are those?

Thanks for the great pics and info!

Also I meant to ask as you mentioned the rolling cases - did you get those cases from Coollights as well, or did you get something else there? What are your thoughts on your cases?

I'm having to figure out a transportation option for my lighting so I wouldn't mind hearing what people are doing with their Coollights...
