Interview kit... what am I missing?

Should i be concerned about not owning my own hand-mic if I am going to work recording interviews for an other prod company?

Should I be worried about not having lavaliers?

What would be the cheaper-but-worth-the-investment lavs?

Sorry about how broad and naive my questions are... :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

emw lavs and g2 wireless tx/rx are the "cheaper-but-worth-the-investment" choice I like. If you have a boom op and an appropriate mic for the environment then why lav or go handheld? If its a no repeat takes type of situation I would go with a lav or handheld as backup. lav vs handheld is mainly a visual choice if you ask me - do you want to see them holding a mic? With handheld you will have to trust that the talent hold the mic at the right distance. Lav means you'll have to wire each person obviously too so that could become a hassle if its lots of different people. Thats my 2 cents.

What kind of interviews are you talking about?

A. Man on the street interviews where you JUST need hear the responses of the interviewee

B. Man on the street interviews where you need to hear the interviewer AND interviewee

C. Combo of the above where two or more people will be interviewed at the same time, with or wihout needing to hear the interviewer

D. Interior 'sit-down' interviews where you need to hear JUST the interviewee

E. Interior 'sit-down' interviews where you need to hear the interviewer and the interviewee

F. Interior 'sit-down' interview where you need to hear the interviewer and more than one interviewee

G. Interviewss without a camera that you wiil record as 'audio only' with one or more people

H. Interviews over the phone

Also, if you are working with a camera crew will they be moving around a lot or staying in place between interviews, and will they bee shooting wide enough to see floors or ground, where your cables might be running through? Also, is the interviewer skilled enough to work a handheld mic into position on the talent during interviews, if you want to go that route?

the evre50 is an awesome handheld mic that has internal wind/shock protection (not sure how much wind it can take). It is a tank though.

I agree with the above, find out exactly what you will be doing and rent or buy appropriately. You have to have some things to get the jobs and wireless and wired lavs are a staple.

The g2 with emw is a good suggestion. It comes with a really crummy lav (the me2), but you should replace it with emw (or better) wired for g2.
