Interships

Anyone have any tips on how find an internship in the industry (paid or unpaid) ? How would you approach companies , or is there a site where positions are posted ?

yes, I've done volunteering at a TV Broadcast companie. I just want to know where I can find someplace where I can donate my time and learn at the same time. it's that or spend 40 000$ on film school. I personaly dont want to spend that much and go to film school. But I find it's the only way to jump start things for me, and intership would do the trick also.

Well, I dunno about Canada, but locally here, I'm pretty sure you can contact production houses (full-service) and ask about open positions. I was looking at PA'ing just to be onset, but my day job keeps getting in the way. Some are willing to pay based on experience.

I'm sure others here can give you better advice, but that's what I have seen work. I've done a lot of work for free, just to be on set. Lots of grunt work involved sometimes, but them's the breaks.

Also, if you have someone at the broadcast station who would write a letter of recommendation, it sure cant hurt.

cool, thanks, I'm willing to travel wherever so the whole Canada thing doesn't become an issue. Anyone have any tips on how to approach companies ?

I dont know where you will end up looking or how you will contact them, but I would have a current resume of productions you've worked on and in what capacity you have been credited (or even an uncredited capacity). Just so if you get that chance to be considered, you have some way to serparate yourself from the general population. :)

If I was looking at wanting to do what you were doing, I would first ask within my professional network I've worked with in the past for leads. Failing that, I would start making phone calls to get at least the contact info for the production houses and their preferred methods of inquiry.

Good luck!

I am so the wrong person to comment on these types of things. The site seems kinda smarmy to me, maybe because it relies on so much hype right there in your face, instead of just letting you know, nuts and bolts, what they can do for you.

:(
