Interning in LA a good idea?

I got to the University of Texas: Austin studying in communications.
They're just started a new program where you intern in a major film studio is LA for a semester, but its pretty pricey (around 13k/semester!)
However, have any of you guys had experience interning in these big studios? (dreamworks, MGM, 20th century fox, intermedia, columbia, etc, etc).

I wonder if it'd be worth it, to see how it's really like, unless they just make me sit in an office all day and not get to see how it works..
but hmm. worth 12 credit hours of school, it just seems like too good of an experience to pass up on

It can intern for a reputable studio or development company it's worth every penny.

It's entirely possible to make your own internship. Decide who you'd like to work for/with and make them an offer. You are in control.

I'll remember that comment next time I hear you complain about lack of funds, etc. ;)

i think i might do it in spring 2006, so i can finish my degree (im dual majoring in film and public relations) and then 2 semesters of students would've gone by to tell me how it is.

it really sounds exciting, just having permission to be in a film set will make me wet my pants
