Internet Connection

Como's back. back again
I'm In Canada using Rogers Highspeed, and the internet for my mac laptop, my dad's PC laptop, and my mom's PC desktop all work great...But recently, on my iMac, it loses internet connection and it can be very slow.

Every so often during the day, it'll lose connection, so I have to click the wifi symbol at the top of my screen, connect, and it works...Then 10 minutes later I'll lose connection again.

Like I said, the internet for everyone else's computer is fine, including my laptop...It's just my iMac that suffers.

How can I fix this?

Robbie

Virus? Have you moved your computers location(farther away from the router)?Maybe the wireless card in your iMac is dying/needs to be swapped?

Sorry, I didn't see that you responded. And, to answer your question about how a virus can ruin the Internet connection; it can do nasty things to your registry. And it can change your Windows settings (or if you are using Apple it can alter your OS network settings). So, although a virus can't touch your router persay, it can touch the configuration used to talk to your router.

Another thing I should have asked you is if you downloaded new software around the time you started to experience problems? Oddly enough, this just happened to me which is why I thought to check this thread. I downloaded software last week and though it was legal virus-free, retarded my Internet connection. After a fair amount of troubleshooting, I guessed that might be the problem. And, it almost didnt occur to me considering the software was not insidious in nature.

So, if you wipe out newly installed software and/or set your computer back to an earlier date that could certainly help.
