International DVD Distribution

Hi all,

I'm currently working on an international recruitment DVD for an organization, and am a little bit confused with formats. I know which countries use NTSC, which use PAL, and which use SECAM, however, am uncertain how these apply to DVDs. Some research I'm doing suggests that an NTSC encoded DVD will play in a PAL player, and others say that it won't. Some sites say that every DVD (regardless of it being NTSC, PAL, or SECAM) will play in ANY player, so long as the region code jives.

Can I encode the disc as NTSC and have it play in any player around the world? Does anyone have any first hand experience with this?

Thanks a lot!

NTSC players will not play PAL discs; most PAL players appear to play NTSC discs. Has nothing to do with region codes.

I sell DVDs around the globe, I author in NTSC, and I've never had a complaint - they seem to work everywhere.
