:Drogar-BigGrin(DBG) WOW! I can't believe an international distributor just called me today, asking for a "Screener" copy of my movie"Lycan Colony".......!!!!!!(www.lycancolony.com) Holly Crap!!!!

Any advice ????????

Rob:)

Send it to them :)

Actually, you'll need to have all the contracts in place before they'll even think about distributing it. Make sure that you have releases for all your actors, music, any logos in the movie. Make sure that you have contracts in place for crew (percentage of the gross if they worked for deferred payment), your writer, etc...any reputable distribution company will want to make sure that the movie is free from any liability before agreeing to distribute it.

:) Yep, it is already "RETAIL READY" with all contracts accounted for.

Has been selling online.

Anything else I should consider, when sending?

Thanx:)

Include some of the promotional stills as they may want to make their own posters & promo materials and want to see what they have to work with...

they'll also probably ask for an M&E of the soundtrack -- which is music and fx only, aka your mix minus dialogue/narr.

OOOOOOH Boy!:)lol

Right now, they just asked for the screening. Fingers crossed, But I will collect all the materials you all suggested!:)

Thanx again!

Make sure you watermark the screener you send them.

You can use timecode or have it say "sample" in the corner to try to prevent possible pirating.

:dankk2: I have read that you should put "Reference copy only" somewhere on screener. But the dvds are already replicated with Sony ArchOS and have all the "FBI" warnings etc. posted in begining footage. Wouldn't that be enough????

I would have to send a "burned" copy to put watermark on it. The replicated DVDs are more pro copy.

A friend of mine works for a distribution company. She specifically told me to protect my flick before sending it off.

I'd be cautious. Have you researched the company at all? If you feel confident that it's safe and you really want to send the "pro" copy, it's your purogative. I'd go for the good old "it's better safe than sorry".

The FBI warnings - whats stopping someone from bringing the mpeg file into an editing program and merely cutting that stuff off, including credits?

True, very true.

Yes, they are legit. Showcase Entertainment, CA.

I have seen them "favorly"meantioned in quite a few film marketing books, etc.
They contacted me after doing some research online.

Should I send a Burned DVD Screener with the words: "For Screening only" or "SAMPLE" through the middle or bottom/corner of the picture? What is to then stop them from just Keying out the color of the words, etc...?

Also; Do I stop DVD sales from website until I land a distributor??? I wasn't expecting things to happen so fast:(

I have also seen the say "for your consideration" and not have it on the whole move just like every 5 - 10 min for a few minutes.

Showcase is a "real" company. they have been around for awhile and i havent heard anything bad. just my 2 copper

If you are already selling this movie online I don't see any reason to watermark your screener. If they really want to get their hands on a copy just to pirate it they could just buy it off of your web site, right?
