Internal/external hard drive question

If you are editing footage would you prefer to have the data on an internal or external hard drive? Would the data transfer rate matter?

1. When the internal drive is SATA and the external is USB 2.0?
2. When the internal drive is SATA and the external is eSATA? same thing right?

Thanks, I would like to confirm before I start partitioning :)
 
Internal or external doesn't matter. I ran out of room inside my computer and had to start going to firewire drives. Firewire or USB 2.0 are both capable of high enough data transfer speeds. SATA and IDE are just different drive connections, they are both higher speeds than the firewire or usb speed. But it doesn't matter because even firewire and usb is fast enough.... atleast for SD footage.
