Interlacing PROBLEMS

Hi there, this is my first post and i'm really stuck. I shot footage with the panasonic dvx100b in f5. I am editing in a 30i timeline in premiere 1.5, and have used magic bullet look suite on the majority of the footage

Now the problem, About 25 percent of the footage inst playing back (or exporting) with the correct ratio of progressive frames to interlaced frames. The bad clips are playing back with a ratio of 5 interlaced frames to 1 progressive frame. As you can imagine this is totally unacceptable! I've found that i can correct this by using filed options "always deinterlace" but then there are no interlaced frames and the footage looks a bit jumpy.

Does anyone know how to fix this? If anyone has any insight it would be greatly appreciated.

thanks,

richard

Premiere Pro 1.5 has a known problem with 2:3 pulldown removal (which is what you get if you're using scene file F5 and haven't changed it to Advanced (2:3:3:2) pulldown. There's no fix except to upgrade.

But if you shoot with advanced pulldown (24pA, which is what default F6 is), you won't have the problem.

thanks for the input but Is the "always deinterlace" my best option if i do not upgrade. Why does some of the footage react normally to the pulldown removal and some react negatively if they were all shot at the same settings?

you HAVE to capture your 24p footage using scene detect so that the 24p footage is pulled down properly for every shot. PPRO looks at the cadance (2:3:2:3 or 2:3:3:2) from the first few frames of every captured clip and performs that pulldown cadance for the entire clip. however the camera does not continue the cadance from shot to shot, it starts the cadance over with every shot so when PPRO does its pulldown it will be correct for the first shot, and any other shot that happens to line up with the proper cadanec by chance. when you use scene detect , it is able to detect the proper cadance from each shot on its own and do the pulldown correctly.

So in order to correct the problem I would have to re-capture the un-satisfactory clips. It seems like a lot of work but if it gives me the necessary results ill give it a try. Thanks for the input.
