interlacing issue?

I'm editing footage in Vegas 7 from a Sony EX-1, after converting it with the Sony clip browser prog. Original footage was in HD 24p, it's now converted to 29.97 (interlaced) and jaggies are showing up in shots with action or lots of movement.

I had this problem a long time ago but forget how to fix it. Any one have any ideas?? I rarely edit so am not extremely fluent in debugging the issue.

Thanks!

Make sure your project is set to progressive. Goto File >> Properties and in Field Order, make sure it says Progressive and your framerate is 23.976

Then make sure your footage matches. Right click on footage and choose Properties. Click on the Media tab and make sure those are set properly as well.

Thanks Dave!
One more question regarding your 23.976 advise. The fps was changed from 24 to 30 when the Sony clip browser converted the files so I could work with them in Vegas. Does that make sense?

No, it means you did something very wrong. I've not had this happen in 2.5 years with using the EX1 and Clipbowser. In fact, you don't even need clipbrowser. The EX1 files drop right into Vegas straight out of the camera.

Perrone, my DP came to my house and we tried but to no avail. I am running version 7d, we both googled the problem and it said only Vegas 8 or 9 could handle the XDCam. Is there something else I am missing? I originally thought it was a no brainer that they would drop right in and was shocked when they didn't.

From another angle I see the "reduce interlace flicker" box on properties window. I tried it and it's greatly reduced but I'm feeling like that is effecting overall quality.

Describe the steps you are taking in Clipbrowser. There is no way it should go from 24p to 30i. Just shouldn't happen.

And you might want to think about upgrading Vegas a bit. Your copy is from a time when HD was VERY new. No wonder it doesn't understand XDCam.

In clipbrowser I right click and take one or a group of files and hit Export -> mxf for xdcamdvcam 4:3 letterbox and save it to a folder. Since I know nada on this, I'm going by what the DP tried to get to work here. I couldn't understand the switch either.

I would completely upgrade, but that fact that the last time I had to edit a final project was years ago. This instance is very rare. When I had an FX-1 it was all good and worked like a charm ... but yes those days are looong gone.
