Interlacing drving me crazy!

Ok so to my knowledge premiere automatically removes pulldown of 24p/24pa footage so i susually just drag and drop my 24p footage and get to work. Usually i dont get any interlacing and most or nearly all my videos online are good. But recently i've been shooting same 24p/24pa and exporting 23.976 no fields (progressive) ..i mean just normally how i would and i end up with this darn interlaced footage. its driving me crazy!! is there a setting in premiere i can check to see if this footage is being properly converted druing capture? I havent done anything different to my knowlegde...but maybe (cleary) something has changed.
I'm using cs4.

edit: Oh i must add something important cuz now that i think about it its since i;ve started to use AE...so yeh i stand corrected about not doing anything different. This is footage that i put effects on in After Effects and putting back into premiere. I dont have the productions suit so no dymanic link. Could it be something in AE screwing it up? i;m very new to AE so maybe thats it. My composition settings are NTSC DV widescreen 23.976 ...and this is dvx 24p squeeze footage which i export "video for windows" (avi) no compression. you mostly see it in moving shots.

( i know this is more of an after effects question now...but i started this thread already)
so...heres the situation continued...

lemi list my workflow so it would help. its pretty retarded i'm sure. I'm trying to get better on that so if u could help it would be kool also.

1. bare edit Edit in premiere cs4 (widescreen 24ptimeline ). Shot in24pa squeeze mode. Bare editing meaning just picture locking the thing.

2. then I "nest" the whole thing and bring it into after effects cs4. Set compostion to:
ntsc dv widescreen 23.976,
720X480 Pixel aspect D1/dvntsc widescreen (1.21)
Frame rate 23.976

I dont know if nesting is the right thing to do but i dont have the production suite so no dynamic link. However when i nest and drag it over to affter effects, beside the sequence name it says "Dynamic...". I cant see the rest of the name of the file even when i drag the widow wide open.

3. so i apply the effects in there and export and its riddled with Interlaced lines(which was my initial prob. So i looked on that link that David Jimerson put up above me and the instructions are simple enough (or so i thought). its says to right click interpret footage> main> fields and pulldown. from there u have 2 types of pullodonw to choose from. the box for me is empty so it says i should click "guess pulldown" in such a case as this. I click "guess 24pa pulldown"

my settings are this

Frame rate:
A.use frame rate from file (23.976fps)
B. conform to frame rate (23.976)

(i choose A)

4. from there i add to render queue and export vidoe for windows (avi) no compression

Still its interlaced. http://www.vimeo.com/9788930 password "tune"

what am i doing wrong here??
Tried to list all my actions so as to keep it clear. really would like to know what to do.

Try exporting a lossless intermediate from PP (e.g. uncompressed AVI), then import into AE

thanks for the suggestion PDR, good as it may be i'll try that with future projects...but for this i;ve already added all the effects to the nested sequence. the whole video was done in there (its all effects driven). So to export the bare edit as avi and bring it into AE now would mean me doing over the whole vid?!

I was wondering if nesting wud screw with it...but I duno

What i did do was try to import the already exported After Effects avi file into both premiere and AE as a new project to see if that file could be deinterlaced...but in both premeire and AE i'm not given the option to to it. When i click interpret footage in premiere and go to 24p pulldown removal i cant even click it. When i do the same in AE and click guess 24pa..nothing happens.

You normally would be able to copy & paste your effects, since it's a nested sequence it will appear as 1 layer

But if your original problem is from interpretation of the footage, then it might not work

now i created a dvd just to see how it would look on tv...and its playing all stuttery. sigh. After Effects seems to be screwing everything up cuz i usually make 24p dvd's and they play fine. not 2 sure what to do.

A couple quick things I noticed, just reading everyones post and hearing some of your problems, issues I've had and settings I've changed in the past anticipating problems. Anyhow, first off, anytime you export directly out of AE, and choose video for windows, its going to export out a huge uncompressed avi file, this is not the file that is suppose to go back into premiere and because it will require rendering and give playback issues because the file is big, when your exporting out AE and choose video for windows you must go into the format options, and choose I think its the first one on the list or Microsoft Video, because apparently this is the same format Premiere captures in and its the same video you edit with, For years I exported out those huge files, but I imported them back into my premiere project and then I always had to render those files so they played correctly, but again you must change your format options or youll get huge uncompressed AE AVI files.

Second thing I noticed, and this happen to me previously, all dv videos is the 29.97 or 30 fps, that 24pa or 24p is basically a hack of some sorts that we've all read about and explained, because if you right click on any of your 24pa footage, the properties will tell you its actually 29.97, so what i normally used to have to do until recently i dont know how but cs4 fixed itself for some reason, once I captured the footage, in the project manager window of premiere cs4 I'd highlight all the footage thats suppose to be 24pa, right click on the files and then it should say assume this frame rate frame rate, like the first 3 options, it has something called remove 24pa pulldown, always click on this option because I think it changes your footage to the actual 23.97 footage its suppose to be, then after you do that you go down to the field order option and change that to conform to no fields (no progressive) because most of the time these options are not default even if you choose a 24pa sequence. At least on my computer If you do this correctly, when you dynamic link or copy and paste your footage to AE, the footage will be correctly imported as 23.97 or whatever

Also when you export make sure your exporting as a 23.97 file or whatever,

or better yet if you have cs4 just import the ae session back into premiere and render it since youll have to render it anyway

or make sure you have the correct settings and import your sessions into the cs4 encoder and export from there
