Interlacing Crazyness in DVDSP

Hey Folks

I have a video imorted from FCP to Mpeg-2. THe video has a few still images that I de-interlaced to get rid of those nasty jagged edges. It looks clean in FCP on my computer monitor and my preview monitor. The mpeg looks clean on my computer monitor, but once it goes into the preview at Studio Pro it goes back to the interlaced look. I have wasted an afternoon of my life to this issue, which I will not get back. Any thoughts? Thanks for any help.

So it's only the stills that look bad? As i understand it you've placed them within your running footage. Does the moving footage look ok?
Are there any thin horizontal lines?
Preview could be showing 1/2 res sometimes (only even lines) but soudns liek you're having problems with final output.
Not sure why MPEG previewed over firewire to a monitor would look much different than the same MPEG played back from DVD.
Note that if these are pure stills and not in footage DVD pro may munge the size.

Check the Apple discussions under DVD Studio Pro.

I am looking at the discussions right now.
They are stills from video that look fine in FCP, the Mpeg looks fine on my monitor, even in the asset preview in SP it is OK, but in the simulator, and in the burn I get the nasty jagged fuzzy lines on a graphic image. But the asset is clean. Does not make sense to me.

OK this just gets odder!
Now even the preview is fine. So I figure some higher being has thought I have suffered enough and I will try and burn it. No such luck. Alas I have to keep the hair shirt on.

When you're reviewing them on the monitor- is that a video monitor and not a computer monitor?
Is this a video still with graphics applied? If color saturation or contrast is high that can cause problems, especially on normal tv.

What did you use to compress the video? If you used Compressor, then there is a De-Interlacing filter you can add. I had a similiar problem and I added the filter in Compressor and it took the lines out. If you look at the Split Screen Preview window in Compressor, you will see the lines on the left screen and no lines on the right side.

I did use compressor, as well as the deinterlace filter. It is a video still of a graphic that I needed as a background. It is fine previewed on both a computer monitor, and a video monitor. And is fine in the DVD studio pro preview now. I tried the field order at top and bottom. It is just not making sense to me.
