Interlaced problem of FCP HD

I captured my DV footage on the standard settings of 720x480 NTSC, 29.97… and I got some horrible image… I can see every field in a frame as the subject moves.

How can I solve this problem? Do I need to re-capture? Should I change the settings on FCP HD? How about the DVX100A?

I also encountered this problem. However, I was importing standard footage with the 24p settings active. The problem is that when you import it you cannot tell untill before you render it that is has a problem because it doesnt actually get screwed up untill you render it. Unless you check your settings ahead of time and are aware that you have made a mistake. I had to delete all the captured footage. Change the settings, then recapture the footage with the correct settings applied. Also when the correct setting were applied I did not have to render the video either. So you may want to check your settings, also the same thing happened when I captured 24p with the standard settings applied as well.

What frame rate was it shot at? Even the 24p will have interlaced frames until (unless) you do pulldown removal.
The whole point of interlace is to make the images play smoother at 29.97
Do NOT use the computer to judge finished video. You need to output it to real NTSC video (i.e. through deck/camera to NTSC monitor/TV)
Interlace isn't bad unless you need to get true progressive images.

If you shot 24pa and plan to edit at 24p then do advance pulldown removal and place in a 23.98 sequence.
If you shot 24p and want to edit it at 24p then use Cinema Tools to reverse telecine and place results in 23.98 sequence. Not you only need to do this if going to film or 24p DVD.
