Interlace or moire issue?

Can anyone tell if the effects of the bottom two grabs are a result of not deinteralcing footage or if it's inherit in the original footage because of the stripes?

The original footage was shot in HD and the grabs are from a 640x360 compression.

(not talking about the blacked out face effect btw...=) )

thats the problem, I don't have the original to play around with. I differnt company is handling the editing. I have a feeling once it's deinterlaced it would be fine, I can't imagine a camera that creates moire effects when the shirts pattern wasn't too detailed.

Well, they are Moiré patterns but it's difficult to say whether they are present in the original footage or just the result of poor downscaling techniques. Do you know which camera the footage was shot with?

Just going off those grabs I don't think it's an interlacing issue but the patterns giving the camera fits.

Not sure what camera it was shot on. OK, maybe poor downscaling. I think that's what I'm leaning towards, I have to ask if it's present in the original footage. Thanks!

My old DVC30 did something like this when shooting in "frame mode" - basically in-camera deinterlacing. But without the original and the knowledge of the camera and settings, everything is just guessing.
