Interlace, Jagged edge question

Hi,

I'm trying to edit my old Hi8 video footage and found that when placed on NTSC DV 29fps default timeline, all my footage have the same interlace or jagged edges problem. When I test play the same footage using Window Media Player, all seems normal.

Do I need to de-interlace the footages? Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks John for your quick reply.  I did have the option "Allow Pulldown Removal When opening 24dv" checked if that is what you meant.  I unchecked it, closed and re-open session and
:( the problem is still there.

Any other suggestion?  Thanks again for your help.

Keith

P.s I'm using Vegas 5

Re: Interlace, Jagged edge question

Ok, maybe this is a solution. I right click event on time line, properties, then checked reduced interlace flicker. The interlace went away, but I have 2 questions:

1. Reduced interlace flicker seems to lower the quality of the image or maybe soften it a bit so it seems like it is losing quality. Is this true?

2. Is there a button that I could just click to activate this function for the entire timeline or do I have to do it for every single event? I couldn't find it if there is one.

Thanks for your help.

Re: Interlace, Jagged edge question

Sounds like you might have to change your Project Video Properties.

1. Check your Field order

Determines field order of the frames when drawn on the screen. Consult your capture/video output card's documentation for the proper field order for your specific device.

None (progressive scan): Select this option when viewing the video on a computer. This option ignores interlacing.

Upper field first: (odd or field A) Select this option for video that will be viewed on a television.

Lower field first: (even or field B) Select this option for DV output or if Upper field first produces jittery or shaky output.
