interior shooting exterior

Ok, basically I am shooting inside a house and following the talent from outside a window into the house's kitchen.
We planned on shooting around a 4.5f-5f, using 500T.

Some details on the shoot, 1ks inside (possibly tweenies) and possibly an HMI hitting the talent on the out

I am planning on using a NDGel on the windows to knock down the outside light to try to match within a stop with the inside lighting, as well as possibly getting a color correction ND to try to dampen the daylight to tungsten effect.

Any additional details I need here, anything I am missing ?
Thanks!

Sounds like you have a good start planned out. Depending on the circumstance, you might not want to completely neutralize the color temperature shift from indoor to outdoor. If it's all flat color, it will look like the Golden Girls, if it's totally orange/blue it will look like CSI. Sort of depends on the nature of your project.

Is your plan to balance everything to about 5600k?

I've used 1/2 CTO with no ND on a window and had acceptable results, when the camera was balanced for 3200k and the scene was about 95% indoor.

You could consider a screen/mesh instead if that's easier than gelling the window.

Since I am using 500T , for proper exposure, wouldn't I be balancing for Tungston (3200K) ? If so, then you are saying that a 1/2 CTO on the windows will result in better color appearance on the exterior shot than using a standard ND filter ?

And yes, basically the entire scene is interior save for a beginning shot following the talent inside.

Thanks for the suggestions

I didn't know they still made 500T..... sorry I was spacing out. Are you planning on gelling the HMI then, or do you mean we'll only see the HMI through the window so it doesn't need it?

Just using an ND filter will still leave the outside really really blue/cyan. If you're trying to be conservative, use a CTO on the window. A full CTO will drop your light by about a stop. If you can take some chances, I'd try the 1/2CTO to leave some blue outside, and either way have an ND around in case the meter says you need it.
