Interior mic?

Hi all,

I've recently bought myself a small location recording set-up consisting of a pair of Senn G2 radios, a sound devices 302 and Senn 416 shotgun.

I know there is a lot of discussion here on budget hyper mics, but what I was wondering is how they would compare to a 416 for interior recording? Would the Ocktava mk012, for example, produce better results than the 416?

I haven't the money to buy a Schoeps or MKH50 and so I was thinking an Ocktava may do the job?

I've found the Octava a usable mic, but susceptible to handling noise. That being said , a really good suspension system can help in that department. I also have an AGK 300B. This is another inexpensive mic, which I prefer to the Octava. I would suggest you look at this one.
Cheers
Jon

I haven't had the opportunity to use the Octava, but the production sound guys I know like it a lot and compare it to pricier mics.

One word of warning; there are lots of Chinese knock-offs out there and some "mixed" models as well (Chinese parts - especially capsules - replacing the original Russian parts) being sold on the 'net. If you decide to get the Octava be sure to get it from a reputable vendor.
