Interference

I have an Audio-technica AT897.. when I connect it to my XLR input on the Avx100A in the camera mount, I get an interference - radio sound that I hear through my head phones. this happens with all the setting using Mic Power + 48 OFF and ON.. It is totally the weirdest thing i have ever encountered.. I can totally hear music from a radio station coming through the head phones.

The sound does not come through when using the internal mic.

This has got me totally stumped.... I have pretty much tried all the combinations to stop this interference... Sometimes when i touch the MIC or take it off the camera mount.. the interference disappears..

has anyone else encountered this problem???

thanks

Re: Interference

I have encounterd the same problem. I'm not quite sure what the source of the problem is but sometimes your shotgun mics and headphones can sometimes act like a radio scanner. Sometimes this occurs when you talk on your house phone. You may pick up radio stations and other peoples conversation. It's an intresting phenomenon. Usually my solution, is to move to a different location. Maybe someone else on this board knows what this strange problem is. You shouldn't worry about it. I don't think it damages anything expect kill your brain cells. :)

Re: Interference

check the cable between your mike and the camera , there might be a problem , or the microphone ground connection
try to put dynamic mike if you have one and check the cable

Re: Interference

You know that could be a bad grounnd connection. Your XLR cable may have a jacked ground connection. Oleg is right, Try switching to a different cable.

Re: Interference

Thanks for your help.. When I get back to LA I will try a new cable... I have been shooting interviews in a hotel room and have just realized that the mic is ULTRA sensitive. It is incredible.. when I stood outside a random hotel room and pointed the mic at the door, I could hear the entire conversation between people in that room..

I felt like a spy.

Re: Interference

I did mobile DJ work for years & have found similar problems at times. As previous posts have suggested, probably a 'Ground" problem in cable or mic. or a bad solder joint. If possible, get a jumper lead with aligater clips each end & bridge a metal part of the cable to a metal part of the camera. If it is an earth problem this should cut the interferience.
