Recently I've begun to explore Mozilla's "Popcorn" system for the web and have started some work with developing a Drupal front and back end. Anyone else around here skate through these kind of areas?

Hello

Main concern about popcorn is it is for HTML5, and this is not yet a standard, so many clients would have to configure something to get it work. If the final product is mastered end to end (like you are producing an application for a customer on a dedicated platfom) it should be ok.

Flash is still the king for such apps and eventually , it must be possible to add some transparent css over a player.

(and yes CSS is also a bit finnicky about browsers)
Possibly Mootools should allow that.

I remember, many years ago there was a nice tool called Hypnotizer that was doing exactly that, but
i think the product never pass the 1.0 version

Well I did do a quick demo test at http://drupalcalgary.org and the only html5 only video which is browser sensitive was the one I tested using the mediaspawner at time 0:42 seconds of the top video which shows up in a block to the right. Everything else was all popcorn tests using YouTube which worked fine for me with five of the major browsers I tested

I do have an invisible hotspot from time 0:14 secs to 1:26 in a 50x50px rectangle upper middle right at the moment for my own testing of invisible overlays. I personally don't have a requirement for transparent CSS since I find div tags on various z-index levels work fine in confjunction with CSS hand or pointer cursor and have the click event response I need for overlaying player.

I showed a small demo to a broadcaster in BC today and they're wildly enthusiastic. There's still things I'm doing to cement in the foundation modules for both Drupal 6 and Drupal 7 but should they decide to reach for their wallets on something in the meantime they'll certainly find me receptive.
