"During a speech at Computex today, Intel senior vice president Anand Chandrasekher introduced products and technologies in its upcoming Intel Core2 Duo processors. Saying that the company's innovation will 'redefine how PCs are used today and attract more buyers' around the world, the Intel exec touted the new Intel 965 Express 'Broadwater' chipset, which it said would enable breakthrough PC performance, greater power efficiency, quieter systems and theatre-like sound quality when combined with the company's Core2 Duo platform. Already benchmarks have shown that the new Core 2 Duo outperforms previous generation chips by a signficant margin. As previously disclosed, he also noted that Intel will introduce the Intel Core 2 Extreme processor at speeds of 2.93GHz in July, and a faster 3.2GHz version later in the year. The company's revamped Core 2 Duo for mobile applications, code-named Merom, is due in August," MacNN reports.

I can't keep up! My g5 is only 18 months old! However, I edited HVX footage on it fine, with garageband, photoshop, and particle illusion all open and running at once. Maybe I don't need to upgrade even though they say it's a lot faster?

Moore's law is becoming the way of the dodo bird. Every time I go out and buy a new computer, 1 month later there is something twice as fast! :P

The nice thing is their are perfectly good systems available for much less now :) E.G. You can get an AMD Athlon 64 3800+ for $150 now :o (Dropped 50% yesterday ;)) its an example of a great processor thats suddenly available for much less.

I'm happy since although my P4 3.2ghz is fairly good at Video rendering I could still use any boost I can get, I know I'll be getting a new system before the end of the summer :)

Yes, very true. I can use FCP for all of my editing on an older iMac if I wanted to (it's what I have my assistants use). Makes it nice for video editing options. I always look forward to more power though to reduce those rendering times, especially for all of the effects we generate to make a bride look good!! :P

Yah, I'm stuck between getting a new system or sticking with my current one when the difference in rendering may only be about 20%, but it may still cost me more $$$ then I hope to drop.

But either way, just 2-Years ago it would cost you about $900 for a Solid Editing System (just hardware), now you can get a Modern Solid Editing System for about $600, so its getting much more affordable :)

Yep, I just sold my G5 and I can't wait for WWDC to see what I will be buying.
