Intel mac tower and NTSC TV output?

Hey guys, I want use my TV as a display out of final cut. In the past this was no problem but I have a new intel mac tower and can't seem to find a way to do it.

Has anyone found a way to get this to work?

(the apple dvi to s-vid cable doesn't work on the intel towers and the "mac geniuses from the apple store are not the brightest and of course I can't get anyone from apple to help)

If anyone has a secret please let me know. I really don't want to buy another graf card.

thanks.

by "display out in FInal Cut" do you mean video preview? and are you working with SD/Mini-DV? then use firewire..

Hi rook what connection do you want to your tv? s video? I have one for my imac that works fine.

Decklink looks good but I'm hoping for a 50 dollar solution...know what I mean? For a couple hundred bucks I'll just buy an extra LCD.

Sink...how can I use firewire out to tv? Is there a fire to s-vid connector? I'm using a regular old fashion TV.... I work in lots of different formats. I just like a TV to see if my cut is working. Tell me more...

ncje, s-vid would be great. Imac and power books and everything else can send out to TV the new intel macs don't...even with the mac VGA to S-vid adapter....not sure why. Fact is even the apple folk don't seem to have an answer.

Thanks guys,
rook

If you have a firewire camcorder, even a cheap one, you can take firewire out of your mac and into the camera then out of the camera and into the component on your tv.

Firewire -> camera -> TV is the FREE and WORKING solution.

Why do anything else? And pay for it?

miniman, I can put in a new video card but I don't want to spend all the extra cash.

The firewire to cam is a pretty inventive solution...using the cam like a breakout box. Smart.

Seems to be the only solution right now.

Thanks again guys,
rook

I have an intel imac and the adapter and it works. I do know though the old svideo adapter doesnt work with intel imacs, but there is another one - sorry I dont have the box anymore and theres no code on the adapter itself. But IT DOES WORK.

Seriously? REALLY?????????

I believe you but the apple store had nothing for me and I called apple support and they didn't have any knowledge of this either.

Right now I want to go to the apple store and beat up the "geniuses' they have there and then go stab the apple support guy in the ear.

Are you serious?????

Rook -- you don't want to be using an S-Video out from a laptop to be monitoring your FCP project. You want a FW solution.

Canopus and the FW camera are your solutions... but both will be around the 250 range.

Good luck,
