Intel Extreme Processor

I am having a Desktop built using the Intel Extreme processor, editing with Premiere Pro. PP requires dual Xeon processors. The company building the machine insists that on Extreme processor will be faster and better than the dual Xeon processors. Does anyone have experience with this processor.

Thanks

Your best choice these days will be Core 2 Duo or 5100-series ("Woodcrest") Xeon processors. Either of these will spank the P4 Extreme processors.

Please review these specs and see if the xeon still spanks. thanks

Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor X6800

Architecture 65 nanometer technology
L2 Cache 4M
L3 Cache N/A
Clock Speed 2.93 GHz
Front Side Bus Speed 1066 MHz

It will spank the older Xeons and any other desktop processor out there.

The 5100-series Xeons are based on the Core 2 Duo architecture, and will be somewhat faster than the X6800.

Fater is really relative in this case though. ECC memory used with server boards slows things down a bit and the Core 2 Extreme is MEANT to be overclocked. Overclock that sucker and you'll get a ton more performance than the new 3Ghz Xeons.

True. And in November, the quad-core Core 2 processors ("Kentsfield") will be out. Most boards that support the Core 2 Duo will accept the Core 2 Quadro.
