Insuring your Camera/Gear/Computer...

Who has their camera/gear insured? I called one place called safeware that someone on here suggested and they were asking for one payment of $444 to be paid upfront for one year of insurance. That also included my G5 computer too. Anybody know of any other insurance companies that will insure your camera/gear/computer aside from Renter's or Home insurance and Business insurance?

Re: Insuring your Camera/Gear/Computer...

personally i think it's a huge waste of money.

If you've got the money to burn go for it. Perhaps if you do a lot of "risky" work with your equipment, have a ton of REALLY expensive equipment (20K+),  or if your in a bad area maybe it's worth it...otherwise i'd save the cash and get some more gear  ;D

anyways, i know AAA can insure your stuff independantly since one of my friends currently uses them for his equipment.

Re: Insuring your Camera/Gear/Computer...

yea well Id feel better knowing that if something happened to my equipment either here at home or on a shoot that I would be covered. But I do see your point.

Re: Insuring your Camera/Gear/Computer...

IMHO, if you actually use your gear in the field, then get it covered. I use it overseas and all over, so incase something happens to it (theft, etc).. i'm golden.

If you just tinker around at home for fun, then you might just take Dan's advice and buy a new mic or a light or something...

Re: Insuring your Camera/Gear/Computer...

$150 a year? How did you get that deal? I called them last week and they told me it would $444 for a year and I had to pay the full amount in one payment when I signed up. That coverage would cover my camera and computer editing system. I'd like to know how you got insurance through them (safeware) that cheap.

Re: Insuring your Camera/Gear/Computer...

I pay $600 a year, That covers my Camera gear, Cam, lenses, audio e.t.c As well as my turnkey system.

It also includes $1,000,000 in liability. So say if I am filming a short and someone gets hurt I am covered and so is the injured person.

I say go for it. It is well worth the investment. Just make sure that it comes with company liability.
