Instant sharper footage, higher resolution!

I was pulling my hair out wondering why my FS5 footage looked soft in FCP X. I was shooting everything right, using expensive lenses, etc.

Then I found that f*cking check box for playback, "higher quality" vice "better performance." Wow, what a difference. Now the footage looks like it's supposed to...even my HD footage on an LG 5k monitor at full screen.

over the course of time, we ALL make (and continue to make) obvious errors.

the hope is that with each error no great damage is done and that we don't continue to make the same darn error!

Where is this checkbox? My FS5 footage looks soft too.

It's in the 'view' section under 'quality'.

When 'better performance' is chosen the footage appears soft when playing it back (not while paused), but the setting doesn't affect the output/master file.
