Instant HD = Instant Frustration

I hate this plugin. I just can't get it to work. The way it SAYS it works in FCP is just not working. It has to follow paths that somethimes work, sometimes don't. I just don't %&^%* know what I'm doing wrong. I have been here for hours and I just can't make it to work.

What I've been doing- I even created the same &*^* names of their tutorials! :(

1- 1080i 50 25p project.

2- Created Source Sequence

3- Created Master Sequence

4- Dragged and dropped the clips (DV PAL 25P) to the source sequence.

5- Dragged and dropped the source sequence to the Master timeline

6- Dragged and dropped the source sequence to the "viewer"slug.

7- Went to filters, dragged and dropped the filter to the source sequence. Voila the SOurce sequence becomes black, and disappears from my timeline.

8- Start to troubleshoot- Drag and Drop Source Sequence to viewer, again, and can't see any FIlters or controls option.

9- Double clicked the &*^$@# Source sequence and it opened. It showed 1 clip with instant HD. Deselected the effect and it came back.

10- Tried erasing everything and redo again.

11- This time, source on viewer. Dragged and dropped the effect. This appeared "Cannot apply filter because no clip is present." - Then WHAT THE #$%$# AM I SEEING?

12- Repeated 5 times- no luck.

13. In Frustration, Dragged and dropped the Instant HD FIlter to the Source clip in the Master timeline. There was a scalling effect. However, there was no FIlter control. Which means that, by default, Instant HD assumes my footage is NTSC, so the frame size is not correct for 1080i blow up. Cannot control the fit to fill option, since i Can't access the Filters controls

14- Curses Red Giant SOftware for this unnuser friendly software, a big contrast to the Magic Bullet editors looks

15- Desperate, try to find DVXUSER members for help...

Good luck- most plugins are iffy on 1080i/50. I'd contact Magic Bullet directly.

I figured out a "workaround". SInce the effect worked when I trew it to the "source sequence" on the Master timeline (but couldn't mess with the effect's settings) I configured the effects settings before dumping it to the file. Terrrible for previewing (had to delete the source sequence clip every time I wanted to change effect settings)

But somehow got it to work

A quick tip to everyone using this on an 1080i50 timeline. Make sure that you go to the sequence settings and select field dominance to "none", or it will add artifacts to the clip (ugly ones at that).

Will try to contact Red Giant for the best workflow.
