installing Vegas 5 OR 6 issues

Matt Grunau

Adobe Demigod
Hi all. I was a dedicated Vegas 4 user and wanted to try an upgrade. I downloaded BOTH 5 and 6b, and when I went to install on my work computer, I got a message saying it would not instal without the

"Microsoft .Net Framework Version 1.1 Serivce pack 1."

Went online, downloaded it, installed it, and I keep getting the same message, after rebooting, after clearing out the Vegas folder, doing everything I can think of.

I do NOT have my work computers hooked up to the Internet. I went into the Program Files/Sony Setup/Vegas 6, opened that folder and tried to run the setup from there. It worked, and the the installation seemed normal. Now evertime I open vegas and even TRY to do something it gets an "error that can not be explained" and soon after simply shuts down.

I can not think that the makers would require everyone who wanted to use or tryout their product to hve internet access. Anyone have any Ideas? What in the hell am I doing wrong? Vegas 6 is supposed to rock monkey butt, and I can't even get a peek at it!

I have tried it on both of my work systems.

Computer 1. Windows 2000 with DirectX 9 w/ Windows Service pack 4 (and of course the .Net Framework thing)

Computer 2. Windows XP Home DierxtX 9 w/ Windows Service pack 2 (also also wik the .net framework thing).

Frustrating.

Thanks for any help.

Hi Rapier,
Im no expert, but also just recently purchased Vegas 6 and installed it into a computer not hooked up on the internet. When I got the question about installing the service pack, I clicked on 'install' and it then seemed to install the service pack, which I then concluded was a program on the Vegas CD itself. It all seemed to work fine, as I dont have the same problems you are having. However, the only problem Ive encountered since installing it, is that using the film effects video fx fuction does not work. (see my current thread on this) But I am not getting any "errors that cannot be explained" and then having it shut down. I dont know what else to suggest besides getting your computer online and trying to download it from the Sony site- this was suggested to me for my problem, but not sure it can be done free of charge since Ive already purchased the CD version. Anyone else know?

I think though, the problem is that I did not purchase it, but downloaded the Demo, which did not do any additional installing for me. Damn shame, I just kNOW this thing would be great.

Thanks for the info though.

anyone else have any ideas?
