man i hope this has an easy answer!

i am trying to load FCP studio 5.1 into my newly purchased (but used) g5..the G5 has all the system requirements as far as i can telll ..but here is what happens..the install disk defaults to "Custom" and all the extra stuff---Soundtrack, Motion etc--is able to be installed--and in fact i just did so,,,but FCP ITSELF does not install...in fact i cant even get it to be checkaable in the little box ...plus the words are dimmed out...when i try to install it a message comes up and says..."nothing to install"

i know that the install discs work bc i have installed them on 3 other computers at work...

does anybody know what is going on here?! help!

You've installed the program on 4 computers???

Shame -- you've violated the tou for that product.

Shame!!!

hey captain...! yea i kinda thought that would be the first reply..all i can say in my defense is that it's me and several students all in the same room working on the same project... does that make it less shameful? !~ in other words , i wasnt passing it around town...btw , could the install problem be RELATED to the fact that the install cds have been used more than once?

Ain't gonna happen- in fact you're a little nuts copping to this in public. Contact your department head or whoever buys stuff and get them to get a group license for the computer network. Then they won't get sued on your behalf...

theyre not networked...not sure, NoahK, what youre referring to when you write "Ain't gonna happen"--the launching if they are networked, or the install? yes, it is maybe more than a little nuts, and i dont take any of what is being written here lightly....nor do i want to piss off a group of folks who know their stuff so well.... but i hope that it doesnt sound like special pleading when i say that it was a minor miracle the school did ANYTHING for this project...they are prob. judgement proof given our budget realities... its no joke how broke the ca. schools are.

I hear ya- but Apple also likes to help out a school in need if they can. It's worth a little checking into on your part. Not sure what prevents the install but I'd suspect they have some sort of unique identifier that communicates across the network to prevent multiple installs from being possible. I'd suggest keeping it working on the machine it has been successfully installed on- there's not much else likely to work legally. And helping you crack it somehow would not be the place of this forum...
