Installing FCP 6 Storage ?

Should I trash my previous Final Cut Studio applications.... The 1st FCP 6 disk is asking for 42GB of space... I've got 13GB, so I need to do a lot of rearranging. Any tips?

Much Appreciated.

In the installer you can choose to not install much of the content, for example Soundtrack Pro's Surround content is huge. Other than that, I'd suggest getting a bigger system drive.

Robert,
you can install much of the content on an external or secondary drive, in the installer collapse Motion, Soundtrack and DVD SP and you'll see the option.
Without those the install is about 6/7 GB instead of almost 50!

What about getting rid of FCS1? What's the best way to clean them off the drive before installing?

The applications themselves will be automatically overwritten by the new versions, content might need to be looked at.

Ok, so if I installed all FCS content on my MBP internal drive and want to install only applications next go 'round and install all content on an external drive (I'm smarter now) then I may need to go manually uninstall old FCS content, right?

Noah - You can move the content to an external drive even after installing it on the startup drive, right? Then it's just a matter of pointing to it later. Is that correct?

It's likely to take some doing as each app will look for it's expected content folder and will need to be redirected but in theory there's nothing to stop you. It's all just audio loops, themes, etc.

My honest suggestion would be to get a bigger startup disc if you can- though of course this is a lot easier done on a desktop than a laptop...

Thanks for the response, Noah.

Because I'm on a MacBook Pro (w/ a 7200/ 100 GB), I was thinking along the lines of moving less critical (see: utilized) content to an external drive. I would add a larger internal drive, but I don't want to cough up the drive speed.

If you move the surround content for Soundtrack Pro along that's more than half the install space.

As best as I can find, these are the places FCS1 installs "Content". So if I install FCS 2 it should overwrite/trash everything I need to worry about and then I can go back and check these locations to delete content if it's stil there? (until I can buy a larger HDD for my MBP I don't want to install any content on my internal drive)
