Inspire 1 RAW Now Shipping!

Wish there were a gimbal for a Micro Cinema Camera to pair up with this thing. But, CinemaDNG... might be time to fly finally. xD

That would be the dream! The only downside with the Micro Camera is no 4K :(

4k up to 60fps will be huge for drones, looking forward to that on the lower end. Ability to do additional stabilize/reframe + have a subtle slow motion which can really smooth out motion will be very nice. Probably phantom 5 i'm guessing...

Raw is spelled raw, or with a capital R if it starts a sentence like in this one. It is never "RAW". R, A and W do not abbreviate anything. It is just a word; raw.

It's also not as "good" a thing as most video guys think it is.

Actually, it is almost always written as "RAW".

Raw vs prores in a camera like Alexa or the like is not that big of deal cause Arri has good taste in image making. But raw vs 264 in a DJI camera is a really big deal (3,200.00 raw 4k camera with a dialed in gimbal- add a osmo handle for wireless monitoring etc...-to me its a very big deal) . Raw is not the answer for every camera but when you have a young company thats not known for image quality giving out raw sensor data it really takes THEM out of the equation. I have not ever purchased a go pro or DJi camera of any sort cause it all has that "look". This raw cam takes that "look" completely away. and DNG sequence is a great tool when you need it, Ive never been sad that I caught a moment in raw (maybe only when im purchasing HD's:) Lastly, I do find the reaction to the X5r oddly quiet. I feel like im in the minority of people who see it as something really powerful and potentially altering the landscape of the future of camera movement. anyway, long live RAW... (I used all caps for emphasis)

I have an X5 and Osmo and Inspire. The X5 has a few issues due to the fact that DJI doesn't know how to implement camera tech. They are brilliant with their drone and gimbal products, but their camera team is confused. The X5 was released in November and it still isn't officially supported on the Osmo and firmware improvements are still needed to bring it up to speed with cameras used in a professional environment. I think that is why DJI is keeping the X5R release muted. It is still in beta based on experience with the X5, and DJI's bread and butter is the drone market.

Yup. I've been playing with the released CinemaDNG footage from the x5r to add support for the camera in slimRAW, and their DNGs could use some work - way suboptimal lossless compression (easily ~15% shaved off in slimraw), also really unfriendly to parallel decoding; missing key metadata tags; Premiere incompatible. Amongst the worst I've seen in terms of internal organization.
Gorgeous looking footage though when processed.

Interesting. The general question on the DJI boards is what is DJI is going to mess up on the X5R. Their track record is bad when it comes to camera integration. I have faith that they will figure fix it all with firmware upgrades down the road, and I hope they will hire a dedicated camera team that knows what it's doing, but right now the user experience is a mess of compromises, understanding the limitations of the camera, and finding workarounds for the failures of the firmware.

i guess im just a little too optimistic for my own good, but thats me. I bought into the idea of DSLR video right away with nikon's d90 slightly before 5d2 madness and even with all of the crap in the image there was something pretty special about it. Looking back 2008 was course altering for camera form. I know DJI is not gonna get it right for awhile but truth be told NONE of the gimbals out there are trouble free. Spend one day on set with a movi/ronin and you will realize its just part of the game. It will be a long while before X5r works like a dream but Im OK with a rough start, its because they're first.

Regarding the intelligent tracking on the Phantom 4 look up the new Vertical Studio app on the Apple app store, its a drone control package that offers the Phantom 4's feature on the Phantom 3 and Inspire.
