Insidious 2

Ok, this was a creepy movie. I'm a big fan of the director James Wan. He's got some real talent. There's some shots in the movie that are just gorgeous. And scary. Another thing I really liked was teh lighting. The DP did an awesome job. It's dark, with lots of practical lights that seem to throw hardly any light. LIke the actor turns on a light which would normally light up the room, but somehow it only lights up a tiny portion of the actors face, and the walls remain dark and shadowy. It's a very unique look which really adds to the atmosphere.

Insidious 2 is very different from the first movie. Same family, continuation of the story, but this time it's more like a mystery. There's some clues we get from teh spirit world and the cast has to figure out what's going on to save teh day.

So, much more involved plot which dovetails neatly with the first movie. Some would say a little to neatly to the point of being silly, but I thought the writing was pretty good.

However, the second installment is not packed with as many jump out of your seat moments. It's more like a sustained creepiness than a "gotcha!" every few minutes like the first one.

I can see how if audiences were looking for a repeat of teh first movie they might be somewhat disappointed, but overall I liked it.

This was very good indeed. A well-made horror film with brains. I really loved it and it was surprisingly creepy. It scared be psychologically and actually, I flinched a couple of times, I don't normally flinch in horror movies. I would have to say this was the best horror movie I've seen in the last 10 years or so.
