Inside The Actor's Studio

TV, I know but still film related. I generally like this show but if James Lipton disappears any further up the backsides of his guests there'll only be his shoes and socks left! He's so fawning and obsequious its gets in the way of the interview. He never mentions the crap his guests have done (and try doing that in an hour long Sylvester Stallone  interview!) and really believes that  actors are God's greatest gift to humanity.

Nevertheless there have been some good shows: Newman;Hackman;John Hurt;Clint;Spielberg etc etc. De Niro was a bore and said nothing of interest or insight at all and refused to say "You talkin' to me?" And it's amazing how many supposedly 'great actors' have absolutely nothing of insight or interest to say about anything, even themselves.

Oh man, I think I broke something laughing so hard. Whew!

I agree. I generally like the show too. Interestingly enough one of the most interesting episodes was the Billy Joel episode. I'm not personally aware of any movie that Billy Joel has been in ... George Clooney *looked* like Billy Joel in The Perfect Storm, but I don't think that's close enough to get you on Inside the Actor's Studio. Anyway, my original point is that the interview with Joel was one of the most interesting.

The Mike Myers and Chris Walken interviews were good too. I think the insight and interest that actors bring is more a reflection of their personality. DeNiro is an amazing actor and had done amazing work, but he doesn't strike me as the kind of guy you'd hang out with. On the other hand I'd love to spend an evening with Chris Walken. I think that would be facinating.

I too am a little disturbed at the host' behaivor. I think Will Ferrel summed it up best.

Did anyone see the Ali G. interview with James Lipton? It's freaking brilliant. Maybe the funniest thing I've seen from Ali G., and Ali G.is one funny mofo.

"What sound or noise do you love?"

I'd love to hear the sound of James Lipton's pompous behind being crushed in some kind of big industrial grinding machine.

By the way, it's an extraordinary privilige to watch all of you practice your craft. All of you are so..........in the moment.

Re: Inside The Actor's Studio

Actors sometimes take their job way too seriously. I have worked as a professional actor for several years here (Orlando), and I got into it because I'd always wanted to. I have no formal training and I think it's absolutely ludicrous when I hear actors talking about making "brave choices" for roles they've played.
I consider rushing into a burning building to rescue someone a brave choice, or defending one's country, or myriad other occupations that go mostly unsung. I do not consider gaining 30 pounds to play a part a brave choice.
It's just retarded when they talk like that.
