I might be overlooking something really obvious here, but I have looked around a bit and have been using FCP for a long time now and have not figured it out yet. So I will throw it out to you guys.

Is there a way to get a clip from the viewer, after you have set your in and out points, onto the timeline with out the audio?

I just want to grab a clip that has audio attached and get it to the timeline, disregarding the audio.

Maybe a keyboard command or button, something?

Thanks guys!!

If you lock the corresponding audio tracks in teh timeline and you drop a vid clip into it it will delete the audio with that clip.

Example:

You have no video on VId Track 1, but you have your audio that you want to keep on Aud Track 1 & 2. Lock Aud 1 & 2, then drop you vid clip on Vid Track 1, the audio for that clip will be deleted automatically.

That is a great tip and I have actually done that before, but I was looking for more of a hold something down while you drag the clip type of thing, ooorrrr are there hotkeys to lock the audio tracks? that would be just as good.

Thanks for the reply, I appreciate it!!

Pressing ctrl i or ctrl o will select video In and video Out respectively on the source window, but you can't have the regular In and Out marks already marked on the clip. Well you can, but it will leave the audio at the In and Out points. Clear out your previous marks if you have them with option x, and then do the Video In and Video Out marks so it will only activate the video track when you paste, overwrite, or drag it in.

For further reference, goto Tools>Keyboard Layout>Customize and it will show you the keyboard map and list how the various functions are mapped. (or press option h)

Even easier is to just click on the tabs to the left of the time line (forgot what they are called) anyway there is a 1 for video and a 1&2 for audio. When the two audio tabs are clicked and seperate from the timeline the audio will not show up at all when you drag a clip down.
