Innobits Video Purifier (video NR application)

Hey All,

Just thought I'd bring the attention of this new product for those looking to rid the old video noise in their footage (No, I do not work for them).

Let me give you a little info: I've tried Neat Video, ReVision FX DE:Noise, Magic Bullet Noise Reducer and a few other products. For the most part, Neat Video had given me the best results with the only a few issues.

1. PC only (I had to purchase Adobe Premiere to run the program). I have an Intel Mac working with Final Cut Pro.

2. I had banding issues when processing the footage. Yes, my I got cleaner results (avoiding the 'plastic' one dimensional results), but gradients had problems. You could see distinct color separation (as if I was only displaying thousands of colors as opposed to millions). I didn't notice it that much on the PC, but one the footage came into the mac it was apparent.

3. The plugin applied the effect to the entire edited clip. I guess you could cut down your edits and apply only to the desired portions or make changes in Neat Video from clip to clip.

The other plugins (ReVisoin FX DE:Noise for example) gave good results but the artifacts could be very bad. I had a shot where someone was smoking a cigarette and the plugin didn't know what to do with the smoke (In fact it made a hand disappear in the shot). Also small details would tend to float in the image (this would go away if I reduced the amount of NR, but then the image didn't really change from the original). I also noticed banding/gradient problems as well. I'm not saying these plugins are bad, they are useful as long as it's understood about their limitations.

Now for the good news. Innobits Video Purifier is a standalone application that allows you to adjust the threshold exactly where you want it (I varied between 2 to 3 for each cut). The results are fantastic (and for any of us using the HVX200, you know how noisy the footage can be). I did notice some minor artifacts if I set the threshold too high, but I found even minor noise reduction gave excellent cleaner results. Maybe a plugin version would be useful, but I'm happy with how the standalone app works (it's laid out well and very easy to use).

I'd love to keep this little secret to myself, but this program is too good to not let people know. Also their customer service and support is excellent! I had a problem with the newest version and they sent me a update in less than 12 hours (plus I got a phone call from Sweden to make sure everything worked!). Wow.

Again, this product does what it's supposed to do (yes, you have to take your time and look at the results to be sure you're happy) and it's fast as well.

Like I said, I do not work for the company nor do I owe any favors to anyone. This is just a good tool that needs to be noticed. Good job Innobits!

ps, very soon I'm going to reprocess my trailer with Purifier and post it.
