Ink Blu-ray

Yay! My Ink blu-ray just came in the mail. Too funny as it's signed by the writer/director. (didn't need that, lol)

But yeah, pretty psyched about the commentary and stuff. I'll let you guys know!

The commentary and behind the scenes stuff was pretty cool. Didn't know they used a Sony Z1U for the shoot. I still agree with Zak, though, regarding "where did all the money go". They claim a 250K budget, but I can't help but feel that the director/writer and producer are including the 14 months of their own post-production work in that final figure. This movie, having seen all the behind the scenes stuff, listening to the location and crew and equipment requirements and shooting schedule, etc., I'm betting this movie cost more on about 70-80K to make. The other "150-200K" was probably what they WOULD have paid themselves hourly over the course of the 2 year shoot.

I gotta say, though, I know that people have had some problems with the cinematography at times, but after a third viewing this movie still actually gets me where it counts. It's not Dark City or Donnie Darko or anything so profound, but there is something genuine at its core, both in regards to the story and the performances.

I bought the blu-ray to support the film overall, but you can certainly check it out on Netflix.

(I had another thread on this, but for the life of me I can't figure out where i put it!)

I saw this on the big screen back in March. Since then I have chatted with Jamin, his wife (and co-producer) Kiowa, the DP Jeff Pointer and a number of the cast here in Colorado. I started a thread on it at the time, but nobody bit:

I didn't know the budget was that much, and the overall look of the film is not to my taste. But I will stand by the gist of my review. They took their time and made a quality film over the course of a couple of years that was true to their vision. Most importantly, I think Jamin did the one thing that most indie film makers strive for: He made a film that has gotten him attention from people willing to write checks.
