Ingesting large amounts of avchd

Hi,

I've been shooting a doc. over the past 5 months and have accumulated a great deal of avchd footage. At the end of each shooting day I would just clone the sd cards from my af100 and gh2, and label them with date and location.

I am wondering what the best way to deal with this in post is. I am currently in the middle of trying to transcode everything to Prores 422 in FCP, simultaneously entering metadata for each clip, but am seeing that it will end up taking up MASSIVE amounts of hd space. I just bought two 3tb 7200 internal drives for my 8core, but am realizing that this is not even going to be close to enough space to house all of my prores.

Does anyone have better suggestions on how to do this?

Thanks!

ProRes is large, but it us unlikely that you benefit from using anything other than ProRes LT -- at half the data rate and so files half as big. I too prefer to use ProRes, and have found the LT variant works fine for all the AVCHD source I have. For the record, I've switched to Premiere 5.5 but still find working with ProRes a much more effective workflow compared to working with 'native' file formats.

Cheers,
GB
