"influenced" writing

alright cats, i'm not talking about stealing your stories from Joyce or being peer pressured by Disney's ghost in a sexy dream; i'm talking about writing while you're ****ed up.

do you find yourself writing better after seven scotchs? what about shooting out a script while supremely stoned? or do you simply prefer to write while you're right minded?

let's talk about it. dish dish dish.

The only drug I really consume in much quantity is caffeine. I enjoy brainstorming while heavily caffeinated, since my mind can race so quickly. When I actually sit down to write, however, I tend to be mellower. Tired even. I only drink socially, but I imagine a couple of beers could also accomplish a similar effect.

One or two drinks to relax? - just maybe. But writing while you're actually drunk or high? - I strongly suspect that the next day when you reread what you wrote, you'll be thinking to yourself "wow, this guy is really drunk or high"...

I don't get seriously drunk or high, being paranoid/prepared and always ready for an attack, but when my mind is a bit off I've been known to come up with decent things. I remember all night essay writing sessions for college, after a couple nights of not sleeping I couldn't even remember writing most of those papers but they came out pretty damn good. For something longer I suspect structure wouldn't hold up too well.

One time I was driving home after not sleeping for close to a week. There was construction on the freeway and workers had something laid out on the ground in a rough stick figure shape. I had an emotional reaction to what I thought was a giant they'd killed. Took me at least a few seconds to realize it wasn't a giant. Note that I only realized it wasn't a giant; not that road workers don't kill giants, which don't exist. My point is the mind can do some pretty interesting things when it isn't at it's best.
