influence of one's faith/religion or genre preference on evaluating a story ?

Why did I have the feeling all the time that a lot of the painters working for the catholic church would ... subliminally, one could say ... transfer the message to me that naked women are.... ummhh... somehow interesting.....? Those renaissance people.... ;-)

Well, that was before the Council of Trent legislated nudity from Church Art, and it went down hill from there... and the Protestants often used Church Art as grounds for censure and as such, frequently destroyed frescoes and paintings as 'idolatry'... but I digress...

The question answers itself. We all have values that we use to evaluate things in our experience, even screenplays. To not have any values is to be dead. Would a fundamentalist Christian value a story promoting things against their values such as, violence, lying, etc...? No. Would an Atheist value a fundamentalist Christian screenplay promoting values of Praising God, Salvation, etc...? No. Why would anyone positively evaluate something they don't value?
