Inexispensive Panasonic camcorder for edit?

I'm shooting with a DVX100 and want to use something else for transfers to/from FCP.
Would the Panasonic PV-GS12 Mini DV Camcorder suffice or will I need a full transfer VTR? I know the rewind speed and bells and whistles won't exist but are there other downsides? Thanks.

No, any compatible camcorder of any manufacturer is useful as a feeder.
