Industry Rates for creating a budget (Where are they?)

Here you go

Here you go

The idea is to create a budget so if we wanted to find funding it would be possible.

But this is seriously ridiculous. I was able to contact some local Film houses and was able to get a couple of ideas but it only scratched the surface for the template I have to fill out.

For example of the things I have to find is: How much should I budget in for myself as producer?

I keep hitting walls. If any of you ever decide to teach a production management class...please give them a list of imaginary rates! Just because I'm a student doesn't mean I have 20 hours to spare for banging my head on things around the house.

Anyway- back to the never ending scavenger hunt for things that don't exist.

I see how you are frustrated and maybe your teacher should have helped you understand a few more things. I can atest everything I tell you is from my own real world experience as a feature film producer. (please note the keyword feature and NOT documentary, student etc etc)

First off, to quickly answer your producer fee question here is the deal. This isn't really applicable to your size budget but still good for you to know! If the movie goes through the studio system then producers get a flat producer quote. More experienced producers will receive a higher flat fee and less experienced producers get a lower fee. The fee is not relative to the budget but also keep in mind the studio would never hire a producer to produce say ironman 3 without proper credits. Independently speaking, things are done a little different. Normally a producer fee is 5% of the total budget but sometimes producers will increase or decrease this slightly. Keep in mind, as an independent producer you are running the show so really you can allocate any fee you like as long as your investor(s) are ok with it.

Directing fee, writing fees are done the same way. Experience, studio, independent all play a part. Also the unions start kicking in if you go DGA, WGA, SAG, etc

Normally if your budget is about $2M without all your department heads your looking at a full union shoot and then your budget hits around $4M because of fringes and minimum rates you have to pay. Under $2M you can cut out some or all of the unions. We just did a movie for around $1M and it was SAG modified low budget and we had no other unions besides SAG so we paid our department heads, 1st's and 2nd's very cheap rates.

Also don't forget
10 percent contingency
2.5 fee for film finances
SAG bond

Cant bond a film under about $1M but over that you will want to bond it for your safety and your investors safety.

To recap:
Producer fee 5% or around that
Writing/Directing I would do DGA and WGA minimum
Actors is at your discresion
Below the line just do all minium union rates and then you can also do a revised draft with a bit cheaper rates for everyone and see where you come in at.

If you dont have to account for unions just do something simple like $100 a day for department heads $75 a day for 2nds and %50 a day for 2nd 2nds
