Hey all - I'm looking up to build up my first starter rig around my 60D - and while I have a few necessary purchases before I get to a rig/rails/FF system, I feel like it's a good time to start vetting options. My budget is a bit tight - and while I'm not necessarily looking for the cheapest thing around, I am looking for the biggest bang for the buck. The UltraCompact system looks like it's going to fit that bill - shoulder mount with a decent partial cage with plenty of mounting options, easy to drop the handles and shoulder mount for when I want to shoot on sticks, and easy options for adding a follow focus (likely purchased at the same time) and matte box down the road. Ive seen plenty of hit or miss reviews about the ultracompact, that it just doesn't have a good fit and finish, but those are all written 3-4 years ago. Indisystem is used and recommended by a friend of mine, but I'm looking for a broader opinion.
What I'm hoping to get:
Entry-level pricing
Decent starting platform
Plenty of options
Solid build quality (okay if its a bit fiddly, as long as my gear is secure)
Platform that can evolve
A workhorse, dependability.
What I'm not expecting:
Polished, high end system
Refined build quality
Respect and admiration of my peers
