I just picked up an indiRAILSpro XV SM despite the mixed but limited reviews I've read about their products / service. I ordered the unit last Thursday morning, it shipped Friday and was here this afternoon. Awesome service, they didn't answer my emails but I'll get to that in a minute. They did answer the phone on the first ring, it was a female so I'm assuming they hired an assistant over there since I heard they were impossible to get a hold of before. I asked how long it would take to get out (because I waited to the last min and have a shoot this coming weekend lol) and she said they were waiting on some parts, but they'd make sure to assemble and ship it the next day which they did. Now, I've heard people say they haven't gotten the tracking info etc.... All of the email correspondence / tracking info was in my spam folder I found out over the weekend, so they do send it haha, just check your spam folder.
Now onto the unit, it came partly assembled, no instructions but that didn't matter. There are two identical camera mounts included, they're screwed together as once piece when shipped, i'm assuming with maybe a DSLR you'd want to keep them stacked so you could see your view finder at eye level.
Obviously for the HVX one is for shoulder shooting, the other you pop a tripod head on and use it when you use the rig as a glide track, which actually seemed to work half decent.
My only issue was there's no detachable plate to put the camera on, and i liked my hvx sitting low, like right on the rails because that was eye level for me... you basically had to take the camera block off the whole unit screw the camera onto it, put it back in the rails and screw it back on with two screws. The other issue was the camera would shift left and right if bumped because the little pin thats infront of the mounting screw to keep the cam from moving was a bit thin... when it shifted the mounting screw would come loose and then you'd have to take the cam back out, or rise the mount and re-tighten the whole damn thing all over again....
.... BUT there was a simple $28 solution for that. Luckily I live directly behind a Calumet, so I popped in there and picked up a Calumet brand Video Quick Release Slide Plate, some spare M6 screws / locktite at Home Depot and mounted it to the indiSYSTEM camera mount. VIOLA. My rig was now PERFECT, it is a bit heavy as some say, but I feel it's 100% due to the lack of counter weight on the back... i'm going to get ahold of IndiSYSTEM and ask if they have a weight kit, or I'll rig one up myself, but for now sliding the camera a little bit more towards me solved the problem very well.... now to the camera porn lol:
